About The Process
I'm interested in medium specificity; the quality and value of the materials being just as important as the color, composition, and overall content of the work. My painting process begins with pastel sketches and charcoal drawings derived from nature. I look for interesting color interactions in landscapes and people. I also notice lines and patterns that come up in my paintings in the form of marks using a wide range of brushes and palette knives. Color studies and sketches are put aside when I paint, they inspire me and get me started. Ultimately, intuition and trust take over leading to a series of investigations of color and composition which facilitate my process.
