Art Class with Renowned Artist Tim Holmes

  • Saratoga Venue 19848 Veronica Drive Saratoga, CA, 95070 United States (map)

Renowned artist Tim Holmes will be coming here from Montana to give Silicon Valley art lovers a class on figure drawing.

Tim is the first American artist invited to exhibit solo at the world's largest art museum, The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, where his sculptures remain on permanent exhibit.

Holmes has honored transformational figures around the world, from South African president Nelson Mandela to the dissident students of the Tiananmen Square massacre of 1989.

He has been commissioned to create sculpture for several of the world's peacemaking organizations from the United Nations to the Physicians for Social Responsibility. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, President Jimmy Carter, President Vaclav Havel, and Coretta Scott King are among Holmes' most notable collectors.

The class will last for about 4 hours.
Expressive Figure Drawing $50, including model fees. (Previous drawing skills helpful, but not necessary.) 1/2 discount for students. Come for the instruction or the full course including drawing practice.

Anyone who wants to depict natural-looking human figures––from cartoons to scientific illustration–– should know the basic structure and proportions of the body.

In this 2-part workshop we learn a simplified way to envision a figure and draw it in any pose.

The first segment is dedicated to the structure and proportions of the body. In the second optional segment we practice by drawing from a nude model.

Part A: In this 2-hour segment we learn how to build a stick-figure from the inside out using Tim's unique "approach to the figure." Using principles learned over a lifetime of creating figurative sculpture, we learn such concepts as the body fractals and other secrets that make drawing easier.

Part B: We draw from a nude model for 2 hours using the techniques we've learned, by finding certain markers on the body to find the invisible structure of the human body. Then we learn to bring life into the figure using inside movement to create outside dynamism. 2 hours.

This event will be held at: 19848 Veronica Drive, Saratoga, CA 95070

Cost is $50 for the class. 40% discount for registered students. $10 for drawing paper, pencils, charcoal pencils, facility. Extra for wine, snacks, and h’orderves.
